We are offering a completely new way to monetize blogs. We are humble folks here at Fractal Press, but we would like to make one bold claim: that this is a superior option for monetizing blogs when compared to online advertising.
Aligning Incentives
In both cases bloggers need to attract loyal readers by writing high-quality blog posts. But with advertising, once a reader is reading the blog she has to also “like” the advertisement before she clicks on it. Unfortunately, the blogger has no control on this aspect of the matter - he cannot make the reader “like” the advertisement by improving his writing. In order to make money through advertising the blogger needs people to like his content and like the advertising that’s displayed.
In our case, the blogger just needs people to like his content. If blog readers appreciate the content they’ll tend to click the “Anthologize” button and nominate the blog, thus increasing his chances of being published in the anthology. Subsequently, if the book readers like the content, there will be more sales and hence more royalties. It’s simple, all a blogger has to do is create content that people like. The more people like it, the higher the payoff.
In addition, advertising competes for attention with high-quality content. The better the blog and the more the reader is drawn into your writing, the smaller the likelihood that they’ll click on an ad.
Our incentives are perfectly aligned. We offer a clearly illuminated path between good content and increased royalties.
Aesthetics and Design
Finally, we allow bloggers to monetize their writing in a tasteful manner without compromising the design and aesthetics of the blog. Our “Anthologize” button (see the sidebar of this blog) is unobtrusive and needs to appear just once anywhere on a blog.
